概要
A round table discussion was held to discuss the PhD program. Faculty members were asked to share about the following discussion question that was identified in the May FD meeting as a topic requiring further discussion:
- DISCUSSION QUESTION: Does the graduate school narrow the ‘entrance door’ and only take students of a certain level of excellence? Or does the graduate school contintue with current ‘wide entrance gate’ approach which enables students specifically from developing countries whose lack research skills and environmental knowledge sets to apply and be accepted into the program. By accepting students with lower knowledge sets and research skills, many faculty members believe the graduate school is contributing to capacity development which should be considered
a meaningful function of our educational mission.
