On October 10, FLA held a 90-minute workshop on “Harassment Prevention and Conflict Resolution,” facilitated by Dr. Yokota. The session was an important opportunity for faculty and staff to revisit key principles for maintaining a respectful and safe campus environment.
Dr. Yokota’s presentation focused on key aspects of harassment prevention, including how to respond if one witnesses harassment, what steps to take if one experiences it, and guidance on what to do if someone is accused of harassment. Emphasizing the importance of creating a culture of respect, Dr. Yokota also addressed situations where individuals may unintentionally offend others and offered insights on how to handle such delicate matters. A core theme of the session was reconciliation, with practical strategies for resolving conflicts in ways that restore relationships and promote understanding.
Attendees also participated in pair work, in which they discussed potential harassment scenarios and shared approaches for handling these issues in their daily interactions on campus. The workshop also highlighted the concept of the ‘snowball effect,’ stressing the importance of responding swiftly and appropriately to complaints and harassment situations.
Overall, this workshop reinforced the FLA’s ongoing dedication to nurturing an inclusive atmosphere and equipping attendees with the tools needed to address harassment situations.
